Fear Deep Clean
There are two ways that I've done a deep clean on the emotion of Fear.
The first time, I did it using the same format that I use for Resentments.
The second time, I simply listed of all of my current Fears, grouped them together into
a few different categories, and then plugged each group into a neutralizing technique.
Below is the same format I use for resentments, modified for fears.
Column 1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 4 Column 5 Column 6
Who or What Layers P&P Old Story Notes New Story
Column 2 = Layers of Feelings (underneath the fear)
I list all of the other emotions that I feel underneath the fear.
What is the core need beneath all the layers of emotions?
Column 3 = Prayer & Pause (P&P)
I read the resentment prayer or secular script below,
and then Pause and see what comes up in the form of an inspiration or intuitive thought.
Non-Christians can substitute whatever word they want for the word "God".
There is a secular version below the prayer.
FEAR PRAYER
"God, self-reliance and reliance on other human beings has failed me.
Human power is as good as far as it goes, but it doesn't go far enough.
Even great self-confidence doesn't fully solve the fear problem or any other.
I think there is a better way.
I am now living on a different basis - on the basis of trusting and relying upon a Higher Power.
I trust infinite God, rather than my finite self.
God, I trust You and know that spirituality is the way of strength, not weakness.
I never apologize to anyone for depending upon You.
The verdict of the ages is that faith means courage.
All people of faith have courage and trust their Higher Power.
God, I am willing to let You demonstrate through me what You can do. I am in this world to play the role You assign.
Just to the extent that I do as I think You would have me, and humbly rely on You, do You enable me to match calamity with serenity.
Please remove my fear and direct my attention to what You would have me be."
After reading the prayer, I pause and see what comes up in the form of an inspiration/intuitive thought.
I write down what came up during the pause in Column 3.
SECULAR VERSION
"Reliance on flawed humans and outdated strategies to meet my needs, especially to provide me with safety and connection, has failed me.
I am now living on a different basis.
I know there is no absolute safety. Unexpected things can happen at any time.
But it has been a long time since anything truly terrible has happened to me.
I am no longer in the care of distracted or disconnected people.
I am not going to waste every moment worrying about things that might happen but, just as likely, won't happen.
Instead, I turn my attention to letting the Creative Intelligence of Life demonstrate through me what it can do.
To the extent that I allow Life to express itself through me fully, as intended,
am I enabled to fulfill my potential – to be who I was designed to be and to do what I was designed to do."
After reading the script, I pause and see what comes up in the form of an inspiration/intuitive thought.
I write down what came up during the pause in Column 3.
Column 4 = Old Story
I write down what the story is that I am telling myself about each reason.
What belief do I have about what happened?
What does what happened mean about me, others, the world, or life itself?
Column 5 = Neutralizing Notes
I plug each fear into a neutralizing technique.
(I find the TAT™ especially helpful for this. See Neutralizing Approaches & Techniques.)
After neutralizing the anchor, I write down what the anchor was.
Was it the incident I felt fear about or something else?
Column 6 = New Story
After re-evaluating the past, I write down my New Understanding of what happened.
What New Story or New Belief seems possible now?
I Write the new story or belief in Column 5.
